I AM AFGE

Accomplishments as Secretary Treasurer

Protecting AFGE’s Priorities Took a Plan…

ROAD TO RECOVERY

From the COVID restrictions, membership fluctuations, telework adjustments, and other external constraints, I made sure that AFGE continues to thrive.

When I took office in 2020 and then re-elected in 2022, we were in one of the worst financial crises in AFGE’s history. Our deficit was 35 million dollars.

At that time, I asked you to join me on the ROAD TO RECOVERY, where together we could define our future with accountability and transparency.  As your National Secretary

Treasurer, my objective then was to ensure that:

  • We obtained six months of reserves as a safety net.

  • We ensured financial accountability at all levels of AFGE.

  • We updated our business practices.

To achieve this plan, we implemented;

  • Comprehensive Financial Reviews:

     Conducted a thorough audit of the union’s financial health.

     Identified areas of financial strain and opportunities for cost savings.

  • Collaboration with the National Executive Council (NEC):

     Engaged the NEC in regular discussions to ensure collective understanding of the

     financial

     Developed a unified strategy for addressing financial challenges.

  • Strategic Planning:

     Created a detailed plan outlining steps to stabilize and improve finances.

     Implemented cost-saving measures without compromising key initiatives.

  • Financial Monitoring and Reporting:

     Established a system for ongoing financial monitoring and reporting.

     Provided regular updates to the NEC and members to maintain transparency and               trust.

  • Continuous Improvements;

     Reviews the financial plans and adjust strategies as needed.

     Stay flexible and responsive to changing circumstances and new opportunities.

     By focusing on these areas, we were able to address our financial challenges while

     safeguarding AFGE’s priorities and ensuring long term stability.

Now, 4 years later, we are 45 million in the BLACK.
